HDI announces an upcoming range of laser 3D projectors

HDI announced a new range of Laser-Driven 2D/3D Switchable Dynamic Video Projectors. These high-end laser projectors will launch in 2012 (and HDI will make only a 100) - costing $55,000 to $85,000.

Optoma's 3D-XL projector converter now shipping for $499

Optoma's 3D-XL converter is now shipping for $499. The 3D-XL is used to connect HDMI 1.4a (Blu-ray, PS3, etc.) devices to Optoma's 3D-ready projectors (like the GT700 for example).

The 3D-XL comes with one pair of glasses), and each extra pair of glasses costs $80.

RealD installed over 15,000 3D cinema systems

RealD logoRealD announced that they have now over 15,000 3D cinema system installations. They say that installations are ramping up quickly in anticipation of the summer movie lineup. Five years ago there were only about 100 such installations. In fact in the last 12 months RealD installed base jumped 182%.

RealD further says that over 430 million moviegoers have experienced a feature film in RealD 3D.

Sony's VPL-VW90ES high-end 3D projector is now shipping

Sony's VPL-VW90ES is now shipping for $9999.99 (including two pairs of active-shutter glasses). The VPL-VW90ES is Sony's first 3D projector which uses active-shutter glasses (at 240Hz). The projector is a part of Sony's Elevated-Standard (ES) family of high-end products. It uses Silicon X-tal Reflective Display (SXRDTM) technology and offers Full-HD (1080p,24fps), 1000 lumens, and a 150,000:1 contrast ratio.

Apple granted a projection-face-tracking glasses-free 3D TV parent

Apple has been granted a patent for a auto-stereoscopic 3D TV system that uses projectors and face-tracking camera to provide 'realistic holographic visual experience". The system also allows for gesture 3D input.

Optoma to release the 3D-XL converter for projectors in December

TI aims to ship 2-3 million 3D-Ready DLP chips in 2011

TI says that the company aims to ship 2-3 million units of their 3D-Ready DLP chips in 2011. In June, TI said that more than 300,000 DLP 3D-Ready projectors are installed worldwide, and they sold over 250,000 such projectors in 4Q 2009 and 1Q 2010 alone .
