Sony shows a 46" glasses-free 3D LCD prototype

Sony is showing a new 46" glasses-free 3D TVs. The panel is an LCD panel, here's a video showing the display in action:

3D-Display-Info's main focus is 3D display technology, industry and market. It seems that most new TV sets announced these days include 3D support. While this is great news for the 3D industry, we decided to stop listing all those new TVs - and we'll only report on new and exciting 3D displays...

Samsung announce a 55" Super-OLED 3D TV

During CES 2012, Samsung announced a 55" Super-OLED TV, with active-shutter 3D support. Samsung wouldn't reveal the model number and price yet, but it does promise it will ship the TV by Q2 or Q3 2012. The Super-OLED TV also features Samsung's new Smart TV and Smart-Interaction technologies. It includes a camera can can be controled via a remote control, voice control, motion control and face recognition.

Panasonic announce their 2012 3D TV lineup

Panasonic officially announced their 2012 3D TV lineup - and these are all LED-backlit IPS LCDs. There are 3 series, the top of the line WT50 (47" and 55") and the DT50, both featurnig active-shutter 3D. The ET5 series (42", 47" and 55") has less features and passive 3D.

We do not have any pricing information or release date for any of these TVs...

DisplaySearch: 3D TV penetration is up worldwide, down in the US

According to a new research by DisplaySearch, 3D TV penetration (percentage of 3D TVs among all TVs bought) is down in the US, while it's up anywhere else in the world - especially in western Europe and China.

Surprisingly, 3D TV penetration in China and the middle east is better than in the US and Japan.

LG to show a 84" 4K passive-3D TV at CES

LG announced that they will unveil a 84" 4K (3840x2160) passive FPD 3D TV at CES 2012. Usually passive 3D TV means a lower resolution, but in this case it won't matter much as the native resolution is so high...

LG wouldn't reveal the model number, pricing or release date of this TV yet, hopefully they will do so at CES.

StreamTV plans to launch Ultra-D glasses-free 3D TVs at CES (this time for real?)

Back in May 2010, StreamTV started pre-orders for 37" and 42" glasses-free 3D TVs which never shipped. At CES 2011 the company unveiled the Elocity range of glasses-free 3D TVs (42", 56", 60") - which didn't ship either.

Now the companies issued a PR in which they say they will unveil new TVs at CES 2012 - Ultra-D glasses-free 3D TVs with realtime 2D-to-3D conversion. Will it be for real now?
