LGLG to show a 84" 4K passive-3D TV at CESLG announced that they will unveil a 84" 4K (3840x2160) passive FPD 3D TV at CES 2012. Usually passive 3D TV means a lower resolution, but in this case it won't matter much as the native resolution is so high... LG wouldn't reveal the model number, pricing or release date of this TV yet, hopefully they will do so at CES.
LG: 82% of Australians prefer passive 3D technologyLG has performed a blind-testing research in Australia - and the results are that 82% prefer LG's passive 3D technology over Active-Shutter 3D (as provided by Samsung and Sony for example). The research was performed over 5 states in Australia with a sample base of 4,060 consumers.
LG introduces Dual-Play technology for Cinema 3D TVsLG announced it will deploy a new technology for it's Cinema range of 3D TVs, which will allow two players to each see a different 2D image. This is similar to Sony's SimulView (as used in their upcoming Pllaystation 3D monitor) - although LG are using passive 3D technology and not active one like Sony does. The first TV to sport this new technology is LG's LW980T 3D TV.
LG: by 2012 70% of TVs will be 3D enabled, aims to be global market leaderLG Electronics says that they aim to become the market leader for 3D TVs in 2012 - and around 70% of its new TVs will be 3D enabled by year's start.
UK 3D TV sales soaringUK's Dixons Retail Group says that 3D TV sales have increased dramatically over the last quarter - a 500% annual growth. 3D TVs now account for 20% of all TVs sold at Dixons. They say that this jump is due to lower prices and more 3D content being available today. 3D is also featured in more and more TVs - about 40% of the company's stock of TVs feature 3D. Dixons says that passive 3D models (such as the LG LW650T and the Toshiba VL863 series) have sold very well.
Top five TV panel makers increase 3D TV production, expect penetration to reach 10-20%The top-five panel makers (Samsung, LG Display, AUO, CMI and Sharp) are increasing 3D TV panel production as they expect 3D TV penetration to reach 10-20% by the end of 2011. In fact CMI targets 20% 3D TV shipments, AUO predicts 'more than 10%" and Samsung, LGD and Sharp predict 3D TVs to reach 10%-20% of all TV shipments.
LG announces new "3D Synergy" strategy - focusing on interconnecting 3D devicesLG Electronics announced a new "3D Synergy" strategy - that focuses on interconnecting various 3D devices - such as 3D TVs, cameras, phones, games, projectors, monitors and laptops. LG hopes that this strategy will help solve the lack of content issue, and will make LG the world's leading 3D device producer. It's not clear exactly what this strategy means beside marketing currently, we'll have to wait and see. One thing that LG is considering developing inter-connecting services that will enable 3D games on 3D devices or sharing of 3D movies.
