Sony to ship 3D TVs in June 10th, unveils glasses, too

Sony announced that it will begin selling 3D TVs in June. They will also provide the PS3 3D upgrade with the new TVs. Sony's first 3D TVs will be the Bravia XBR-LX900 in 40" ($3,200) and 46" ($3900). The TVs will come with two pais of 3D glasses. In July Sony plans to release six new sets: 52" and 60" models of the same series, and four "3D-Ready" models that will not have glasses or infrared transmitters bundled.

Sony estimates that the glasses will cost around $140, and the transmitter around $50. Sony also unveiled how the TDG-BR50 glasses will look.

Sony's TVs will also include 2D-to-3D realtime converter software.

Sony to make 3D cameras

Back in December we reported that Sony might be developing a 3D DSLR camera. Now we hear that Sony is very keen to expand into 3D imaging, and wants to create a 3D camera. In fact Sony wants to create a camera similar to Fuji's Real 3D W1 consumer camera. This might suggest that in fact it'll be a compact and not a DSLR...

The PS3 will get 3D support this summer

A few months ago we reported that Sony is planning to add 3D support to the PS3. Now they say that it will happen this summer, together with the release of Sony's 3D LCDs. The PS3 will get a firmware upgrade that will enable it to play 3D stereoscopic games and 3D Blu-ray movies.

Sony may release old movies in 3D Blu-ray, projects $15 billion in 3D hardware sales in 2013

Sony says that they may start selling 3D Blu-ray discs with 3D versions of old movies from their archive. Sony says that they'll start next year, if they can do it with 'good effects'. Sony projects around $15.5 billion in sales of 3D products (TVs and Playstations, probably) in 2013.

Sony and BSkyB to develop a mobile 3D broadcast unit

Sony and BSkyB (UK's satellite network) will develop a mobile broadcast unit that can capture 3D content - for things such as football games. Another company that will work on this project is Telegenic.

Sony and Disney announce upcoming 3D Blu-ray movies

Sony says that they will start to release 3D Blu-ray movies soon. The first will be "Cloudy With A Chance of Meatlballs" - which should be available this summer. Disney, on the other hand, will only release its first 3D title in 4Q 2010, which will be "A Christmas Carol".

Sony shows 25.4" 3D OLED TV prototypes

Sony are demoing new 24.5" 3D OLED TV displays. This is just a technology demo, Sony hasn't announced any plans for newer and larger OLED TVs yet, let alone to commercialize this 3D set.
