Researchers create a massive 3D display out of LCD HDTVs

Researchers from the University of California have designed a 3D display made out of 9 LCD HDTV panels (made by JVC). They called it NexCAVE. It requires polarized stereoscopic glasses, and allows visualization of massive datasets in 3D.

The 9-panel, 3-column prototype has a 6000x1500 pixel resolution, and it costs under 100K$.  They are working on a 21-panel, 7-column version that boasts 15,000x1500-pixel resolution.
